Self-Esteem
- It is Not Tangible, but determines how we feel. It is Not Visible, but you see if every time you look in the mirror. It doesn't speak Word Out loud but you can hear it oh' so clear.
What is SELF-ESTEEM?
- Simply put, Self-esteem is your opinion of yourself, High self-esteem is a good opinion of yourself and low self-esteem is a bad opinion of yourself, it our self-perception.
We all suffer from Self-esteem issues, whether we're pretty, sexy, fine, phat, flat, bad, dope, a dime, a ten, ugly, fat, black, skinny, poor, rich, old, young, white, tall, short, smart, dumb, saved, unsaved, liked or disliked.
The people that are closest to me know that I have horrible self-esteem. I have for a while, but I have learned to never let people see you sweat. So I have learned to suppress my inner feelings, it is not helpful but hey, it works for me…lol…. Many people try to say "Its Self-esteem" therefore, it's all based on SELF. Not true! Experiences in life shape or self-esteem, it triggers our sensors causing us to think differently.
Anyway, I was thinking and talking to myself last night as I often do and I thought about myself. I stood in the mirror for ten minutes picking out every flaw, every wrinkle, every bump, every mark, every stretch mark, every roll and every grey hair. Then out of nowhere, the chorus from MJB "Just Fine" Came to my head,
"So I like what I see when I'm looking at me,
when I'm walking past the mirror.
No stress through the night, at a time in my life
Ain't worried about if you feel it
Got my head on straight, I got my mind right
I ain't gonna let you kill it
You see I wouldn't change my life, my life's just….."
Then India Arie Song "I Am Not My Hair" Popped in my head,
"I am not my hair
I am not this skin
I am not your expectations no no
I am not my hair
I am not this skin
I am a soul that lives within"
Then they both made me think about life and how we base how WE FEEL about OURSELVES off what WE THINK people that could care less about us are saying or thinking. When in all actuality they are basing how they feel off what they THINK we are Thinking about them.
Self-esteem is a trick of the enemy to make you think that you are worth anything, because if you look down on yourself you cannot fully embrace all that God has in store for you. God is a great example of a life coach or a parent; throughout the bible, he encourages His children.
His Word Says,
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well." Psalms 139:13-14
"Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious." 1 Peter 3:3-4
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" Genesis 1:27
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11
Most times or self-esteem is based off what we value, if we value things we don't have we tend to compare ourselves and we discover lack where there is no lack in our lives. We become lovers of ourselves, how we look and act and in doing so we make God seem like he is not holding true to His word. "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves ..." II Timothy 3:1-2
Measure Ourselves by God's Standards and Not Man's.
So Look at Yourself in the Mirror and Brag on Yourself, Love Yourself, And Pay No Mind To What Others Think!
*Note to Parents:
Encourage your children; let them know they are Beautiful, they are great & that they can become whatever their minds can fathom. If you boost them now, no knucklehead can tell them they cannot succeed later in life.
