Today, President Barack Obama went on record stating that he Supported Same Sex Marriage. He Quoted Saying,
"I've been going through an evolution on this issue. I've always been adamant that gay and lesbian Americans should be treated fairly and equally,"
Which is a big step for a man that is running for reelection as President of the United Stated of America, it Shows That America has grown and that we are moving forward as a nation This Morning, he said,
"I had hesitated on gay marriage in part because I thought civil unions would be sufficient. And I was sensitive to the fact that for a lot of people the word 'marriage' was something that invokes very powerful traditions, religious beliefs and so forth,"
. However, I honestly believe that he damaged his campaigning efforts. I say that because America is Still Run By Religion. We have separation of Church & State Laws but they protect the church when the Government wants to come in and change things but when it comes to the church evoking power over the government the government always caves in due to fears of violating someone's first amendment rights.
The church is one of the biggest platforms in the world, regardless of denomination, the Christian Church is Very Powerful and they have a LARGE Following. Therefore, I fear that on Sunday morning, which happens to be Mothers Day, a lot of Pastors will somehow find an entrance in their sermon to acknowledge their feeling and position on the Presidents Decision. Comments will be made such as, "If he Supports Gay Marriage I Don't Support Him Cause God's Doesn't Support Gay Marriage" or "Marriage is Between A Man and A Woman, Homosexuality is a Sin, Obama is trying to lead this Country straight to hell." Whatever will be said will somehow get into someone's heart and they will change their stance on the President.
I honestly feel that in the bible God or Jesus never FORCED ANYONE TO DO ANYTHING. God gave his people freewill, so we as Christians should do no more than present the bible to the world and allow the Word of God to Work. Thus, allowing people to decide what they want to do. Ephesians 6:13 says, "HAVING DONE ALL, STAND!" We quote it but we don't apply it!
