In Living Color 2012

Fox TV plans to bring back its groundbreaking 1990s sketch comedy series In Living Color  this spring with the series' creator and star, Keenan Ivory Wayans, on board as host and executive producer. Fox wants Wayans to produce two half-hour (2 shows) specials to air as part of the network's 25th anniversary.

"In Living Color" aired from 1990 to 1994 on FOX. Starring Keenen, Damon, Shawn, Marlon and Kim, not to mention featured players Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, David Alan Grier, and the dancing queen "Fly Girl" Jennifer Lopez.

In the early 90's "in Living Color" was cutting edge. It pushed the limits. It inspired the production so some many other black sketch comedy shows….

Everyone has their favorite sketch from the show whether it be "Men on Film," starring flamboyant film critics Blaine Edwards (Damon Wayans) and Antoine Merriweather (David Alan Grier); Homey D. Clown (Damon Wayans), a rude, crass, blunt, no nonsense urban kiddie entertainer whose catchphrase was "Homey don't play that!"; streetwise scam artists "The Home Boys" (Keenen Ivory and Damon Wayans); Wanda (Jamie Foxx) The Big Lip Freak "I'm Gonna Rock Your World" and Fire Marshall Bill (Jim Carrey), a disfigured safety expert.

The network said that the "modern-day take" on the classic "will feature a new cast of fresh, young talent, as well as musical performances by special guests."
So will say I have absolute faith in the Wayans Family to produce a show that is worthy of laughter and not that is not 100% corny or stereotypical… Will it be fresh and will it be worthy of the original? Will it be better? I honestly believe so…. In the 90's they did get things with limited funding and computer graphics, so I can only begin to fathom what they will come up with. Ican only pray that the EVERYONE from the original cast at least plays in one sketch….

Airdates have yet to be announced.

What are you thought on "In Living Color?"

  1. I think that they need to leave things as is. The show ended and it's no point in trying to relive the past. Pay homage by creating something new instead of potentially ruining a once well received series. #that is all
